Why Has Poker Fallen On Such Hard Times?

The following is an opinion piece by Gambling911.com Publisher, Christopher Costigan.

The pundits are already suggesting that this year's World Series of Poker will witness declining television ratings just as the event has seen a drop in entries over the past two years.  ESPN will be airing the final this evening, although a winner was declared during the early morning hours.  It's the closest ESPN has ever aired the WSOP following live play.  It may all be for naught.

Poker has fallen on hard times and it has little to do with the shattered economy.

Bookies Get Beat Up Badly With Sunday NFL Games

The online bookies were feeling a lot of pain Sunday night following devastating losses in the NFL.  The betting public, meanwhile, appeared to be sitting pretty.

Without a doubt, the harshest blow came at the hands of the still undefeated Tennessee Titans who beat Chicago by a touchdown.  For whatever reason, Tennessee was only a -3 favorite.    The Titans were the most bet on team everywhere.

The New England Patriots 10 point win over the Buffalo Bills was also a knockout punch to the bookies as was the Baltimore Ravens blowout of Houston.
