2008 WSOP Winner

Denmark's Peter Eastgate has become the youngest player to ever win a World Series of Poker, breaking the record held by Phil Hellmuth, Jr. for the last 19 years.

Russian Ivan Demidov was eliminated in 2nd Place but goes home with $5,809,595.

Eastgate had all but clinched the 2008 World Series of Poker by around 3 am EST after  taking a greater than 7-to-1 chip lead over Demidov.

In the moments after Peter Eastgate made his winning wheel and was introduced as the winner of the 2008 Main Event, his Danish entourage treated him (and us) to a final, spirited rendition of what we've come to call "The Oooba Oooba Song." Led by two-time WSOP bracelet winner Jesper Hougaard, it goes something like this: "Oooba oooba oooba!" ("Oooba oooba oooba!") "Blah blah blah!" ("Blah blah blah!") "Bop bop bop!" ("Bop bop bop!") "Hey-hey-o!" (Hey-hey-o!")

Eastgate is the first Dane to win a World Series of Poker main event.  He walks away from the 2008 WSOP with $9,152,416.

Though his friends were smiling ear to ear, Eastgate was quite subdued in the moments following his win, wearing the same stoic gaze that he's donned all tournament. It was only when he walked behind the pile of cash on the table, picked up two bricks of it and held them aloft that the young Dane finally cracked a smile.
