Twitter Data Shows Which MLB Fanbases Dislike Rules Changes the Most

(BetOnline News Wire) - The rules of Major League Baseball were drastically amended this offseason.

Some baseball fans like the changes, while others do not.

A recent study conducted by BetOnline.ag shows precisely which fans complain the most about the rules changes.

The below infographic is based on geotagged Twitter data from Opening Day through Wednesday. The sampling tracked more than 170,000 negative sentiment tweets, hashtags, and direct keyword phrases from each MLB fanbase about the new rules changes.

For example, looking at all the Atlanta Braves tweets that included phrases such as, "I hate the new rules," "I hate the pitch clock," "I hate the rule changes," "the new rules suck," "the pitch clock sucks," "new rules ruining baseball," etc.

The percentage of total team tweets that included complaints about the rules change was used to determine where each fan base ranked.

Chicago Cubs fans have complained the most, but interestingly, the Chicago White Sox fans have complained the least.

Here are the top 10 fan bases with the most complaints about the rules changes:

Chicago Cubs - 12.96%

Cleveland Guardians - 11.34%

Minnesota Twins - 10.76%

Washington Nationals - 9.98%

Texas Rangers - 9.36%

Seattle Mariners - 8.96%

New York Mets - 8.09%

Pittsburgh Pirates - 7.68%

Oakland Athletics - 7.29%

Miami Marlins - 7.21%
