If you are a poker player there are plenty of incredible tournaments to partake in this spring, some with amazing guarantees.  Let's take a look at what's on the upcoming calendar.

The Poker Showdown

As this was going to press, The Poker Showdown 2024 was already in progress.  It's not too late to get in on the championship, however. Hosted at the  Seminole Hard Rock Hollywood April 3-23, 2024, this one features the $3,500 WPT Championship Event that begins April 19.

Borgata Spring Open

This tournament is held from Apr 29, 2024 - May 14, 2024 in Atlantic City.  The Borgata poker room is the premier poker room on the East Coast.  For those who can't be in attendance, one can catch the entire tournament live streamed.

It features $4,000,000 in guarantees.

There is also some great news tied to this event as four-time WPT champion and all-around high-stakes crusher, Darren Elias, announced he has extended his brand ambassador partnership with BetMGM.  It is MGM that operates the famed Borgata Casino, we should note.

“BetMGM is proud to extend our partnership with a poker champion of the caliber of Darren Elias,” said Luke Staudenmaier, Director of Poker at BetMGM. “Darren’s talent and passion for poker, along with his dedication to excellence, align perfectly with our brand values. We look forward to achieving new milestones together and continuing to provide top-tier online and live poker opportunities to our players.”

Oh, and did we mention there is even more great news ahead of the Borgata Spring Open?

A Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement has just been extended to the state of Michigan, where BetMGM dominates at the moment.  This means those in Michigan, as well as New Jersey, Nevada, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, can join a multi-state player pool and enjoy a wealth of poker tournaments to play online in addition to attending live in-person.

The Asian Poker Tour

The Asian Poker Tour was founded in 2008 and, since that time, has featured 113 major events and numerous smaller tournaments mainly, most of which have taken place in the Asia-Pacific Region. The tour has made its way through The Philippines, Macau, South Korea, Cambodia, Vietnam, India, China, Australia, London, New Caledonia and Mauritius.

APT Jeju takes place in South Korea from April 26 to May 5 and comes off what was considered to be the richest poker poker series ever to be played in Taiwan.

The APT’s first visit of the new era comes after a seven-year hiatus.  The Main Event boasts a massive KRW 2 billion (~USD 1.5 million) prize pool guarantee – over twenty times larger than the last APT Main Event offered back in March 2017.

The APT is coming off a sour note that occurred this past December where the tour had to cancel the Vietnam poker series mid-series amid concerns over legality.

The APT never really explained the reasons for the cancellation, stating only that the decision “has not been made lightly” and is “rooted in extenuating circumstances that have arisen, ones that, despite our utmost efforts, we are unable to overcome.

“The safety and well-being of our players and staff are of paramount importance to us, and we must prioritize these concerns above all else,” it added.

The Granddaddy of Poker Tournaments - The WSOP

This year's World Series of Poker of course gets underway on May 28 and culminates with the conclusion of the Main Event July 17.

The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) will be the 55th edition.

Some online poker sites feature satellites as a means of entering the tournament, otherwise the buy-in for the Main Event is $10,000. Alas the winner has been taking home around $10 million.  There are other great tournaments to be had leading up to the Main Event.

This year's WSOP takes place at the Las Vegas Strip at Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas.

“We’re proud to be Las Vegas’s original Main Event,” said Ty Stewart, SVP & Executive Director of the WSOP. “Records are made to be broken, so our motto this year is bigger and better. With our best schedule ever and more than 100 additional poker tables, we look forward to welcoming legends, first-timers and everyone in between. If you’re a poker player, there is simply no experience on earth like the World Series of Poker.”
