The 2011 PGA Tour officially kicked off earlier this month, but for golf betting fans, it really gets going this week. That’s because the two biggest names in golf will be making their PGA season debuts when the Farmers Insurance Open starts Thursday at Torrey Pines in San Diego.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who have both fallen in the rankings in the past few months (Woods to World No. 3 and Mickelson to 6th), are both slated to take part in the tournament.  Golf odds at betED.com have Woods as the favorite at +250, followed by Mickelson at +1200. Dustin Johnson is third at +1600.

Mickelson dropped two spots in the ranking from 4th last week after tying for 37th place at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship on the European Tour.  The two foes have dominated this tournament for years, winning it eight times between the two of them in the past 12 years, Woods with six of those titles.

Many will remember Woods’ last tournament at Torrey Pines – his epic playoff win over Rocco Mediate at the 2008 U.S. Open Championship.  The defending champion is World No. 37 Ben Crane who sealed his biggest career victory with a two-under 70 to hold on for a one-stroke victory over three players.

The first two rounds of the Farmers Insurance Open will be played on the North and South Courses at Torrey Pines, with the final two rounds on the longer, more challenging South Course.

The tournament will be broadcast on the Golf Channel (3-6 pm ET, Thursday and Friday) and CBS (3-6 pm ET, Saturday and Sunday).
