Kentucky Derby Wagering Hits All Time High

There was record wagering at this year’s Kentucky Derby, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal

$187 million total was wagered on Saturday’s Derby, an increase of 13.2 percent from last year’s $165.2 million.  The previous record was set in 2006 at $175.1 million. 

All-sources wagering on the actual Derby was a record $133.1 million, an 18.8-percent from $112 million last year, according to the paper.  The previous record for all-sources wagering on the Derby was $118.4 million, also in 2006.

On-track wagering on the Derby rose 7.1 percent from last year to $12.3 million while breaking the record of $12.1 million in 2008.

Churchill Downs attendance also set a record of 165,307.
