It's bad enough when one mother or father opts to leave their small children in a car to go play in the casino, but when two mothers do it?

That's exactly what Durham Regional Police officers in Ontario, Canada say occurred this past week.

One woman is a 39-year-old Aurora, Ontario resident who is the parent to the older children. The other is a 41-year-old woman from Markham, Ontario, who is the parent of a toddler. Neither woman was named by the police.  Both were arrested for leaving the children unattended.

And, no, the oldest was not 16, 15, 14, not even 13.  That child was 10!

The other two were nine and two years old, respectively.

Officers arrived at the casino after they were alerted about the unsupervised children.....by that time, playing in the busy street.

One of the parents had left a cell phone with the children but it had run out of battery power.

The Children’s Aid Society was told about the incident. None of the children appear to have been injured.

If you think these incidents are rare, you'd be sadly mistaken.

Two years ago, the Indian River County Sheriff's Office in Florida said Bionca Kimyata Lockett, 32, of Sebastian left her infant in the car for around an hour and 45 minutes while she gambled at the Sebastian Square plaza.

A New Zealand woman, Puao Faumuina, once left her baby in her car at Sky City Casino's underground car park and took a lift up to the gaming floor, promising herself she would only spend a few minutes on the pokie Machines. More than three hours later she was still gambling and 7-week-old Neva - left unchecked in the suffocating heat of the car - was severely dehydrated. Ms Faumuina later
tried to kill herself.
