The Bengals have confirmed that starting quarterback Joe Burrow will miss the remainder of this season as he is set to undergo surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.

This presents a crushing blow for a team that was the 5th favorite to win the 2024 Super Bowl.  The Bengals odds were now coming in at 100-1 following the bad news.

Burrow was injured during the Bengals' 34-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday. He said Friday that he felt a pop in the second quarter, when he left the game before being ruled out shortly after halftime.

"I was just going to tape it up and give it a shot," Burrow said. "I just couldn't."

Jake Browning is expected to replace Burrow.  He was 8-of-14 in passing for 68 yards and a touchdown against the Ravens after taking over for Burrow in his first significant NFL action.  Anyone betting the Bengals pretty much knew it was "game over" after a few plays with Browning at the helm however.  Whether he's more prepared to play in upcoming games remains to be seen.  Baltimore went on to beat Cincinnati 34-20.

It should also be noted that the NFL is investigating the Bengals' reporting of Burrow's injury status in the lead-up to Thursday's game.
