Archarcharch Odds to Win Kentucky Derby

Archarcharch odds to win the 2011 Kentucky Derby were set at +1250 or just better than 12/1 with a payout potential of $1250 for every $100 bet or $120 for every $10 bet at BetDSI.com

"We can win from any post position except the one," said Bobby Kelly, the agent for jockey Jon Court, who'll ride Archarcharch in Saturday's $2 million Kentucky Derby.

Guess which position Archarcharch drew.  You got it!  Number one!

Gary West of McClatchey Newspapers writes:

Last year, Lookin At Lucky, the Derby favorite who had post position No. 1, got crushed under an avalanche of horses trying to save ground in the first turn. With a 20-horse field, such as the Kentucky Derby's, the inside post position can be disastrous, not only because of all the outside horses trying to drop in closer to the rail but also because the No. 1 horse is first into the gate and so must stand waiting several moments.

That being said, since 1900, posts 1 and 5 have produced the most Derby winners.

Archarcharch, at +1250 odds, has great value considering his past performance.  He is a three-time stakes winner who has won the Arkansas Derby as well as the Southwest Stakes back in February.

The Daily Racing Form noted that “Archarcharch has the preparation and a pedigree that suggests the staying power to go a mile and a quarter.”

He also has the benefit of having run four two-turn races over the past year, which gives Archarcharch a tremendous edge.
