More Atlantic City Woes as Revenues Drop

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey — (Associated Press) - Atlantic City's casino revenue fell by 4.4 percent in October compared with a year ago.

The casinos took in $207 million, compared to $216 million in October 2013.

But when casinos that have recently shut down are excluded, the surviving casinos saw their revenue increase by more than 19 percent compared to last October, the figures Thursday showed.

China’s Ban on ‘Lewd TV Content’ to Include Gambling, Infidelity and Maybe Harry Potter

Scenes involving murder, one-night stands and extra-marital affairs must now be cut out of live streaming television programs shown in China, most of which originate from the West.

Many foreign TV shows, including American dramas and South Korean soaps, are streamed online in China, the BBC notes.  Now the hosting sites are being told to, not only remove any scenes depicting infidelity or murder, but also those involving gambling activity.

Bwin.Party Shares Plunge Thursday in Late Day Trading

Bwin.Party witnessed more than a 12 percent decrease in its share price following a 10 percent rise Wednesday on news that it was in early takeover talks.  The price rose slightly Thursday morning peaking at 121.82 before the late afternoon plunge just shy of 104.

Connecticut Could See Third Casino

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (Associated Press) — The tribal authority that runs the Mohegan Sun and rival Foxwoods Resort Casino could join forces to operate a third Connecticut casino near the Massachusetts state line to compete with new casinos opening in the Bay State, its chief executive said.

Mitchell Etess, chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authory, told The Day of New London it's "very easy" to see a solution drawn up by the Connecticut legislature.

Atlantic City Showboat Casino Sold, Will be Turned Into College Campus

Atlantic City’s famed and now shuttered Showboat Casino has been sold to Stockton College, which plans to convert the property into a satellite campus.

Caesars Entertainment and the college announced the purchase plan on Wednesday. The sale price was not announced, nor was a target closing date released.

Bwin.Party Confirms Takeover Talks

(Reuters) - Online gambling company Bwin.Party said on Wednesday it was in early talks with a number of parties over a "variety of potential business combinations", which could result in an offer being made for the firm.

Shares in Bwin.party, which made the statement in response to recent media speculation, jumped almost 17 percent on the news to 126 pence.

The company has faced pressure from U.S. activist investor Jason Ader's Spring Owl vehicle to shake-up its board, improve its growth strategy and reduce infrastructure costs.

Caesars Shares Plunge on News of 3Q Losses

Caesars Entertainment Corp. on Monday reported a wider 3rd quarter loss than what had previously been expected. The Las Vegas-based company has not been profitable since 2009.

Caesars reported a loss of $908.1 million, or $6.29 per share, for the July-September period. It posted a loss of $761.4 million, or $6.03 per share, in the same months last year.

Australia Cracks Down on Illegal Online Gambling: Easier Said Than Done

Australia is set to become the latest nation to crack down on an Internet gambling sector estimated to be worth upwards of $10 billion ($1.4 billion of which can be made in Australia).

 

The Sydney Morning Herald reported Thursday that a working group targeting unregulated Web betting firms will be formed as part of the government’s gambling industry advisory council.  Premier Denis Napthine and federal Minister for Social Services Kevin Andrews will be assigned to oversee the council.

Gambling Industry Spent $14 Million to Defeat Ballot Question in Mass

BOSTON (Associated Press) -- Casino companies and their supporters spent nearly $14 million in their successful campaign to defeat a ballot question on repealing the state's casino law.

Online Gambling Site Fined by New Jersey Gaming Enforcement Division

ATLANTIC CITY – (Associated Press) - Authorities have fined an Internet gambling firm $10,000 for soliciting more than 250 people who voluntarily excluded themselves from gambling in New Jersey.

State Gaming Enforcement Division spokeswoman Kerry Langan tells The Press of Atlantic City the fine against Caesars Interactive Entertainment is the first imposed since New Jersey launched online gambling last year.

Casinos and online operations are forbidden from sending promotional materials to gamblers who voluntarily ban themselves.

California Indian Tribe to Offer Online Gambling in New Jersey Through Borgata

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — (Associated Press) - New Jersey gambling regulators have approved a California Indian tribe's request to offer Internet gambling in conjunction with Atlantic City's top casino.

The state's Gaming Enforcement Division has authorized Pala Interactive to team with the Borgata to offer online gambling in New Jersey.

The Pala Band of Mission Indians will be the first Indian tribe to engage in online gambling in New Jersey. The enforcement division signed an order approving the arrangement last Friday.

(Reuters) - 888 Holdings Plc shares rise as much as 5.4 pct, among the top performers among UK midcaps, after issuing an upbeat outlook.

** Online gambling company says expects full year adjusted EBITDA ahead of current analyst consensus.

** 888 posted a 22 pct jump in Q3 revenue driven by a strong performance in its casino games.

** Investec Securities, which rates stock a "buy" , says all areas are performing well, but casino, in particular is way ahead, with Q3 revenue up 23 pct.

** Up to Monday's close, the stock had fallen about 25 pct this year.
