Hearing on RAWA Internet Gambling Prohibition Bill Postponed

A House Sub Committee hearing on Internet gambling prohibition scheduled for this Thursday has been postponed due to anticipated inclement weather.

HR 707 or Restore America’s Wire Act (RAWA) was introduced in the House by  Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) and in the Senate by Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina).  The bill is widely believed to be the brainchild of casino magnate and GOP mega donor Sheldon Adelson.  Last year’s attempt to pass a similar measure failed.

The bill looks to broaden the scope of a 1960’s Wire Act that the U.S. Justice Department determined only applies to sports betting.  Horse racing and fantasy sports contests will be exempt from the bill.
