Gov. Chris Christie Extension : Gaming in Waiting

A bill that would allow licensed Atlantic City casinos to launch online portals through which state residents could play Internet poker, blackjack and other kinds of web gambling applications, would normally face action by the governor this Thursday, February 24th.

The bill was passed on Jan. 10, and the 45-day period ends Feb. 24. However, the specific rule that extends the traditionally cited 45-day deadline also gives him until the next legislative session day to make a decision.

The legislative committees don't meet for their next scheduled session until March 3, almost a full week past the anticipated Feb. 24th deadline.

The resulting intrastate Internet gambling network, limited solely to New Jersey driver's license holders of legal gambling age, would be the first of its kind in the United States.
