2014 Preview:

Offense: Starters Returning: 8

Defense: Starters Returning: 6

If the Gamecocks are going to be in the SEC title game hunt, it’s going to be because of RB Mike Davis (1,535 total yds, 11 TD). The scat back emerged as a star last year and will be leaned on to carry the offense now that QB Connor Shaw is gone. QB Dylan Thompson (8.8 YPA, 4 TD, 3 INT) replaces Shaw. Thompson is more of a classic pocket passer, so much in the Spurrier mold that the ol’ ball coach rotated him in for Shaw at times the past two seasons. He and Davis will benefit from one of the nation’s best offensive lines. The defense will have a much different look now that Jadeveon Clowney is no longer there. LB Skai Moore (4 INT, 56 tackles) leads a solid linebacking corps, but the Gamecocks are thin at cornerback and have no heir apparent to Clowney and departed DT Kelcy Quarles.
