New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram has been suspended for the first four games of the 2018 season for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances, the NFL announced Tuesday.

Ingram will miss games against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and New York Giants.

The Saints had improved dramatically last season and were at 18-1 odds of winning the 2018 Super Bowl.

New Orleans was the co-favorite with the Atlanta Falcons to win the NFC South at 2-1 odds.

While Cleveland, Tampa Bay and Cleveland are beatable even without Ingram, his presence is likely to be missed.

In 2017, Ingram rushed for a career-best 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns to earn his second Pro Bowl selection. He also had 58 receptions for 416 yards last season.
