Ravens 2013 Super Bowl Odds Now 38-1

The Ravens 2013 Super Bowl odds are now 38-1, some of the longest odds we have ever seen for a reigning Super Bowl winner the next season.

And yes there is tremendous value especially when you consider the price had been 23-1 just a week ago.  Commentators believe Baltimore’s lackluster preseason performance against the Carolina Panthers has a lot to do with this.

From AthlonSports.com:

Much has been made about what the Baltimore Ravens have lost since winning Super Bowl XLVII. Superstar linebacker Ray Lewis and veteran Pro Bowl center Matt Birk retired after the title game, while wide receiver Anquan Boldin was traded to San Francisco. Safety Bernard Pollard was cut and signed with Tennessee, linebacker Dannell Ellerbe went to Miami as a free agent, linebacker Paul Kruger signed with Cleveland, cornerback Cary Williams went up I-95 to Philadelphia and veteran safety Ed Reed took his act to Houston. General manager Ozzie Newsome has done a decent job of replenishing things especially on defense, however, bringing in ex-Broncos pass rusher Elvis Dumervil as well as veterans Marcus Spears and Chris Canty. He also got younger at safety by bringing in former Oakland No. 1 pick Michael Huff and drafting Florida's Matt Elam in the first round. Kansas State rookie Arthur Brown will have the unenviable task of trying to replace Lewis and or Ellerbe in the middle.

With the longer odds to win the Super Bowl one would think the price for winning the AFC North would change as well but that hasn’t happened.  They were still getting odds of slightly better than 2/1 or +220.

The good folks from Deadspin.com:

Joe Flacco. Now that the postseason is over, ol' Boring Joe (his family calls him Boring Joe because he's boring!) can go back to completing less than 60 percent of his passes, barely throwing 20 touchdowns, and being the AFC's answer to Eli Manning. He simply isn't the same passer without Ray Lewis's MAGIC JESUS HANDS guiding his passes. Also, Flacco got paid this offseason ($52 million guaranteed). With the remaining cap space, the Ravens have signed this velcro catch paddle to play wideout.

Oddsmakers expectations of Baltimore appear to be getting lower as the regular NFL season fast approaches.  The Ravens are a -120 favorite to win 9 or more games.  By comparison, last year’s Baltimore team would have easily been around the same favorite at OVER/UNDER 11.
