Giants Odds to Win 2016 Super Bowl, NFC East With JPP Status Still Up in Air

The New York Giants odds to win the 2016 Super Bowl and the 2015 NFC East were at 32/1 and 4/1 respectively.

The Giants have been on the decline in recent seasons.  Since winning the Super Bowl four years ago, New York has failed to make the Playoffs.  Last year’s 6-10 record had ownership frustrated enough to make it clear that head coach Tom Coughlin will be on the hot seat.

Positives: It’s hard to believe that Giants starting quarterback Eli Manning did have one of his best seasons in 2014.  Manning threw for 4,410 yards and 30 touchdowns and had career high 63.1 completion percentage.  Coupled with an improved offense that consists of Odell Beckham Jr., what should be a fully recovered Victor Cruz and Rueben Randle.  More importantly perhaps is the addition of Shane Vereen, who caught 52 passes last year for New England.

Negatives:  It doesn’t help that one of the Giants better players, defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul, lost an index finger in a fireworks accident earlier in the month.  Pierre-Paul still has not signed the $14.813 million franchise tender the Giants submitted in March, and he is not planning to sign it until he is sure he can pass a physical or that the Giants won't use the non-football-injury list as a reason to not pay him for any games he has to miss.

Final Analysis:  On paper this looks like a New York team that should have fans and sports bettors alike optimistic.  Oddsmakers have the Giants favored to win at least eight regular season games.  There is terrific value in taking the Giants at 4-1 odds to win the division.  Aside from JPP, this Giants team enters the season healthy.  Even with all the injuries, they still had a top offense last season and there were games that could have had them winning 10 if even one of last year’s casualties had been on the field.
