Can't Bet the All Star Game at Barstool Sportsbook, Open Wagers Placed Before Downtime Ineligible for Cash Out

If you are going to take a sportsbook site down for a week to make upgrades, this is probably the best time to do it.  Regular Major League Baseball games will not be played.  There is still wagering on the popular Home Run Derby, All Star Game and let's not forget about Wimbledon.

Barstool Sports announced it is getting away from its current software provider, Kambi, in favor of a more proprietary betting platform.  Parent company Penn National says it notified customers of the week's long downtime that began Sunday evening.  Not everyone appears to have gotten the memo while others are unhappy with the way the company is handling some payouts.

"72 hours? Are you joking?," asked Twitter user John.

The company only began tweeting out about the downtime after the site went down it appears.

User Cameron claims that certain wagers are not going to be honored.

"Do you have any big pending wagers? I do and now they are saying any bets made previously can’t be cashed out," he tweeted.

Huh?

Officer Cletus Bronson quipped in response:

"They won’t answer, their PR team is trying to make this secret."

Kurt Odell backs the company but claims not to have seen the notification.

"If it was notified I’m okay with the inconvenience. I must have missed the notifications. I’m sure in 72 hours it will be back to normal, penn is a good company."

Overall, there has yet to be any type of mutiny on the Twittersphere, at least not yet.  That could change once folks attempt to access and place a bet on Tuesday's All Star Game.

Gambling911.com began actively alerted its readers in regard to the downtime on Saturday.

In any event, the company is promising a much better customer experience with its updated platform.

"Over the last year, our team has been working hard to build a new and improved Barstool Sportsbook, loaded with additional features to upgrade your betting experience. The upgraded app will include fast load times, deposits and withdrawals, more markets and expanded player props, enhanced promotions and more Barstool exclusives. Barstool Sportsbook also will be more deeply integrated with theScore app, allowing you to build your betslip, follow your betting activity and get live matchup markets all from right within theScore."

Customers will be unable to access their accounts during what is expected to be a 72-hour downtime.

But here is where it gets a little sticky.  Open wagers placed prior to July 10, 2023 will not be eligible for cash out following the re-launch, the site does advise.

A cash out, we can clarify, is similar to a buy out and is a feature that allows sports bettors the ability to settle a bet — and accept a payout less than the full potential win — before the competition ends.

Customers should also be advised that they will be required to now access their betting account using their email on file, not a user name.
