Last year we reported on 5Dimes shutting down two months after we warned the Isle of Man as to information we obtained exclusively related to their intended closure.

This week we are learning of another online gambling company shutting down its Isle of Man operations and forfeiting their gaming license.

188BET confirmed the departure, though the betting firm will remain operational as it relocates to The Phillipines.

“188BET is currently operated by Cube Limited and licensed by the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission (IoMGSC). Effective from 00:00:00 hrs (GMT -4) on 19 March 2024 Cube Limited will surrender its IoMGSC licence and the business of 188BET will be operated by a new Philippine-based company, BestCommerce Corporation, which is licensed and regulated by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (PAGCOR).”

This represents another tremendous blow to the Isle of Man, long considered among the most reputable licensing authorities.  I88BET's departure at least will not leave a stain on the licensing authority's reputation as did 5Dimes to some extent.  5Dimes mostly returned player deposits and winnings but developed a reputation for failing to honor futures bets in jurisdictions where they previously exited.

Latest From the COPA vs. Satoshi Trial

A number of witnesses took the stand for Dr. Craig Wright in London’s COPA v Wright trial this week, telling the court in various ways that their experience with Dr. Wright before the public release of the Bitcoin White Paper makes Dr. Wright a likely candidate to be Satoshi Nakamoto, co-founder of Bitcoin.

The most dramatic of these came from Rob Jenkins, a former business associate and later friend of Dr. Wright appearing via video link, writes Jordan Atkins, who has been covering the trial extensively for our colleagues CoinGeek. Jenkins told the court that while he hadn’t been sent any pre-release draft of the Bitcoin White Paper, he does remember being shown a document by Dr. Wright which included ‘Timecoin’ in the header.

The COPA vs. Craig Wright case represents a pivotal moment in the ongoing debate over the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto and the foundational elements of bitcoin. The case will continue for the next 5 weeks.

Specifically, the case will dissect and investigate the complex issues surrounding copyright claims and the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, bitcoin's mysterious creator, writes Susie Violet Ford of Forbes.
