Padres @ Cubs

This series was mostly split last season, however, the three games played in Chicago did go 2-1 in the Cubs favor.  That's not too compelling a case for Chicago but it's worth noting as the Padres swept the Cubs in Chicago the final four games of the series in 2022.

Yu Darvish will start for San Diego as a +108 overnight underdog with Monday's MLB odds.  Darvish is 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA.  His team sits at .500.

Darvish just shut out the Reds for five innings to win Tuesday in his return from the injured list. Darvish allowed three hits, walked none and struck out three in the 6-4 victory.  It was his first win of the season and first time since July 29 of last year that he did not allow at least one run. Now he's set to face off against his previous club, so the motivation factor should be pretty mighty here.

Justin Steele is coming off the injury list having suffered a hamstring industry on opening day.

Can Seattle's Ace Make It Four Consecutive Solid Starts?

Castillo will keep his team in the game and get into the backend of the bullpen on Monday. He has pitched six or more innings in each of his last four starts.  The Twins starter, Woods-Richardson, is relatively inexperienced and has had things go in his favor thus far despite giving up more hits than innings pitched this season. His luck will run out in the opener of this series on Monday and the Mariners will open the series with a win. - Winners and Whiners

Mariners @ Twins

Five of the seven games between these two teams featured 9 or more runs with four of those going well into the double digits.  The total for Monday's game was set at 7.5.

Luis Castillo starts for the Mariners.  He's 3-4 with a 3.46 ERA.

Castillo didn’t allow a run in seven innings of work to help the Mariners to a 3-2 win over Atlanta on Tuesday while he struck out six in six innings of two-run baseball to pick up a win over the Rangers his prior start.

Facing off against this current Twins roster in 69 at bats, Castillo has permitted 7 RBIs and 3 home runs.

On paper at least it would appear Castillo is going to have another good day.  But even if he can't make it deep, Seattle has one of the best bullpens so far this season.

The Mariners have only scored five or more runs in three of their last ten games while allowing no more than three runs in seven.

The Twins have scored 5 or more runs in seven of their last ten games while allowing five or more runs in half of those.

Simeon Woods Richardson is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA for the Twins.

Woods Richardson pitched 3 2/3 innings while allowing seven hits and two runs in the Twins’ win over the White Sox his last start while allowing two runs on seven hits in five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox.  The Mariners are no White Sox.

Three of the top cappers are backing the Twins and Woods Richardson.
