We are getting really close to baseball season as players are starting to report to spring training camps around the country.

And starting on March 6th, players representing their countries will begin competing in the fourth version of the World Baseball Classic.

The classic runs through March 22nd with the championship round being played in Los Angeles, Ca.

The Dominican Republic returns as the defending champions of the event and are a strong threat to win it again. Fans of baseball betting will be anxious to start looking at where they should place their bets.

Online bookies and pay per head agents should also start looking at which countries are favored and why.

Below are the some of the teams that the odds are favored to and will probably see a lot of action in sportsbooks.

USA           +200

Early odds are out, and the United States is considered a slight overall favorite to win with odds at +200 while the Dominican Republic is right behind.

But, bare in mind that the US has not finished higher than 4th in this event.

The US is loaded with major league baseball talent including the likes of Buster Posey, Nolan Arenado, Paul Goldschmidt, Eric Hosmer and Giancarlo Stanton.

They can also trot out the likes of Tyler Clippard and Andrew Miller from the bullpen. Although setting max betting limits is a good idea, it may be a good and even split.

This really depends on how many sharps and casual bettors agents have in their books.

Dominican Republic              +250

The Dominican team is scary good at the plate with Adrian Beltre, Hanley Ramirez, Robinson Cano and Manny Machado among others.

On the mound is where sharp bettors may take a closer look. Other than Johnny Cueto and Carlos Martinez, they may not have enough pitching to win it all again.

Be safe and watch the action, place max betting limits on any prop bets. Pay per head agents should always have max betting limits on all games. Those limits should be based around the willingness and ability to pay out.

Japan                  +300

Japan comes in with the 3rd best odds at +300 and they are a threat as well. Although there aren’t many players recognizable to most fans, the Japanese are always a threat and shouldn’t be discounted.

Venezuela           +900

Venezuela is definitely a team to watch. Boasting a plethora of major league players such as Jose Altuve, Miguel Cabrera, Rougned Odor and Carlos Gonzalez, as well as Felix Hernandez on the hill, the Venezuelans could also go all the way.

Other countries with an outside chance to make some noise are Puerto Rico (+1000), South Korea (+1000) and Cuba (+1800).

So as baseball betting starts to heat up, online bookies and price per head agents need to be ready as well. Play ball.

Chris Paddack Player Prop Bets

Paddack recorded 10 strikeouts over seven shutout innings on Monday in a win over the White Sox. Prior to that start, Paddack was obliterated by the Orioles, allowing nine runs on 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.

Zach Eflin Player Prop Bets

Zach Eflin has great value in fantasy leagues for the April 26 game against the lowly Chicago White Sox.  Betting on Eflin and the Tampa Bay Rays might make sense if not for the -210 price tag.

Trevor Williams Player Prop Bets

The Nats Trevor Williams held the Astros to one run with four strikeouts across six innings in a no-decision on Saturday.  And the betting public was eating him up at a near 80% clip.
