Organizers for The International say they will share more information as it becomes available while noting a new date has yet to be discussed.

Teams at The International compete in the game Defence of the Ancients - better known as Dota 2.  Players control teams of heroes with special powers to destroy each other's bases.

Last year's event, held in Shanghai's 18,000 capacity Mercedes Benz Arena, paid out $35m (£28m).  While the COVID-19 pandemic has been mostly good for eSports, the industry derives much of its revenue from live stadium-filled events like The International.

Sweden has garnered a great deal of criticism for its lack of "stay-at-home" protocol during the pandemic.

Fortnite World Cup, one of the most popular esports events in the gaming community, has been called off over coronavirus scare. Epic Games, the developers of the Battle Royale game has announced the cancellation of the gaming tournament this year. The announcement was made via series of Twitter posts.
