Sports bettors in the tiny state of Rhode Island will have even more to be thankful this Thanksgiving Day as the Twin River Casino in Lincoln is set to launch its sportsbook.

The sportsbook is conveniently located near Providence and many other towns spread throughout Rhode Island and portions of Massachusetts.  It is an hour's drive from Boston outside of normal rush hour periods.

The Twins River Casino sportsbook will be operating from a limited space over the next few weeks before expansion onto the third floor some time in mid to late December.  IGT and William Hill will run the books.

Only single game wagering will be permitted, meaning popular parlays will not be available.  Online sports betting via one's smart phone or laptop will only be available on-site, similar to the setup at Mississippi casinos.

The state expects sports betting to generate revenue of around $23.5 million.

Rhode Island residents will still have access to international sports betting sites from anywhere in the state.  None of these websites impose a tax, thus providing them with a competitive edge.  Because the state of Rhode Island will be receiving 51 percent of revenues from sports wagers, those placing bets in the Twin River establishments can expect to pay steep taxes on their winnings, upwards of 51 percent.
