Rays vs. Athletics Series Betting Preview (May 7, 2021)

The UNDER is 10-2 in the last 12 games of this series.

Rays vs. Athletics Pitching (May 7, 2021)

Saturday

Frankie Montas OAK (3-2, 5.87)

Frankie Montas picked up a win while allowing three runs over six innings against the Blue Jays.

Frankie Montas was charged with three runs over six innings Tuesday in a loss to the Rays.  Montas was heading into the sixth with a lead, but he allowed a two-out single to Francisco Mejia and Brett Phillips followed with a two-run home run.

Montas has taken fantasy owners on a rollercoaster ride with his inconsistency this season.

He does make it a difficult case for the UNDER.

Sunday

This one is the most likely of the three games to continue the UNDER trend, keeping in mind that Irvin is likely due for a bad outing.  We would be more inclined to take the UNDER if Irvin were coming off a loss, or even a no decision.

Shane McClanahan TB (0-0, 2.25)

  • McClanahan registered five strikeouts over four scoreless innings on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Angels on May 5.
  • McClanahan allowed two runs over four innings and struck out five against the A's in his first big-league start on April 29.

Cole Irvin OAK (3-3, 3.09)

  • Irvin recorded a career-high nine strikeouts over eight innings of one-run ball on Tuesday in a win over the Blue Jays May 5.
  • Irvin fanned eight while holding the Rays to two runs over six frames but took a tough-luck loss Wednesday April 28.
  • Despite giving up eight hits, Cole Irvin held the Orioles to one run in 5 1/3 innings April 23.
  • Irvin tossed six scoreless innings while allowing four hits with six strikeouts to get the win Saturday April 17.
  • Irvin was charged with four runs over 5 1/3 innings on Thursday in a loss to the Astros on April 8.
