The New Zealander has driven for Chip Ganassi Racing since joining IndyCar.  Dixon has won the championship in 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2015, and he won the 92nd Indianapolis 500 in 2008 from pole position.

Dixon and his three team-mates all struggled to match the front-runners during the initial six days of practice and in qualifying his 13th was the best of the four in the 33-car field, stuff.co.nz noted.

"On Sunday night there is really only one happy person and that is the winner. It is win all and try and take all. If not you bust and it is a sad old night.

"Hopefully number 13 (off the grid) is going to be lucky, but race running on Monday was really good, the car was strong," he said.

"If you have fast car, you can win from anywhere, especially with a team like Chip Ganassi.

"We've seen it many times if you look at (Dan) Wheldon winning from 16th in 2011, Dario (Franchitti) won from 16th in 2012 and then (Juan Pablo) Montoya went to the back of the field last year after his incident and won."

Iowa State: Are They The Underdogs To Look For In March Madness?

They may be defined as “underdogs” or “Cinderella teams”, a term that is usually saved for teams that have little to no chance of winning even a single game during the NCAA Tournament. Teams like Loyola Marymount (1990), George Mason (2006), Davidson (2008), VCU (2011), UConn (2014), and Loyola Chicago (2018) come to mind when conversations turn toward the most surprising tournament runs in recent memory.
