The 2017-2018 NHL Season begins on Oct. 4. Already, Hart Trophy future bettors are pounding Connor McDavid, last year’s winner, in sportsbooks.

Check out odds and if online bookie agents should be worried about action on anyone besides Connor McDavid.

NHL Hart Trophy Futures

Connor McDavid (EDM)       +150

Sidney Crosby (PIT)              +250

Auston Matthews (TOR)         +850

Alex Ovechkin (WSH)             +900

Patrick Kane (CHI)                +1400

Vladimir Tarasenko (STL)     +1500

Evgeni Malkin (PIT)               +1600

Consider Letting Wagers Ride

The odds imply that only Sidney Crosby has a shot at beating Connor McDavid for this season’s NHL Hart Trophy. Crosby is considered the best hockey player on the planet. Crosby is a bad play, though.

Not only must Crosby be better this season than last season, he must also be better than Evgeni Malkin. Both things most likely won’t happen. Pittsburgh has won the Stanley Cup in the past 2 seasons.

Once per head agents think about it this way, it becomes clear that Crosby or Malkin winning the Hart Trophy is almost out of the question.

The chances of Pittsburgh winning a third straight Stanley Cup are much greater than the Penguins’ current 8 to 1 odds.

More importantly, how can Crosby or Malkin being better in 2017-2018 be better than either was in 2016-2017?

All agents should consider allowing action on Crosby and Malkin to ride.

Agents should also consider allowing action to ride on Ovechkin, Kane, and Tarasenko. All 3 players have a shot at the Hart Trophy. But, all 3 players face uphill battles winning the Hart Trophy.

Set Max Betting Limits

The key NHL player on this list is Auston Matthews. Matthews heads into his second season in NHL. Last season, as the number 1 pick in the NHL draft, Auston played great.

He garnered 69 points, much less than McDavid’s 100. There’s no doubt that Matthews takes a major step forward, though.

By major, I mean that he approaches 100 points this season if not eclipses it. Auston Matthews is that good of a player.

All pay per head agents should expect action in their books on Auston Matthews to win the Hart Trophy. Setting max betting limits makes a lot of sense.

Back to McDavid, the odds make him the clear-cut favorite. That doesn’t mean he garners less action than he should. At +125, McDavid offers odds above even money.

He trounced his competition by no less than 11 points last season. There’s a good chance he does the same this season.

Online bookie agents setting max betting limits on Connor McDavid isn’t a bad idea.
