Governor Andrew Cuomo reportedly intends to use revenue from sports betting to help close a $3.1 billion fiscal gap.

This in the New York City area and portions of Southeast New York are already heavily exposed to advertisements for legalized sports betting in neighboring state New Jersey where it is already legal.  The New York media covers the northern half of New Jersey.

New York is likely to offer sportsbooks from its four land-based casinos, none of which are especially convenient to those living in Manhattan and the other four buroughs.  Currently, New York City residents can visit New Jersey's Meadowlands FanDuel branded sportsbook located within a half hour distance.

It is not yet known whether New York will include online or mobile betting.

The state budget must be finalized by April 1.
