Mucho Macho Man Odds to Win Kentucky Derby

Mucho Macho Man odds to win the 2011 Kentucky Derby were now at 10/1 or +1000 at BetED.com and these odds appeared to be getting slashed further.  He had the 4th shortest odds at BetED.com as of Thursday night.

Mucho Macho Man may be this year’s sentimental favorite.  He is trained by one of three female trainer/jockeys taking the stage at this year’s Run for the Roses, Kathy Rivito.

The 41-year-old suffered from a degenerative heart disease that claimed the life of her brother Lou in 1996.

Ritvo spent six months in a Miami hospital before receiving a heart transplant in 2008 that saved her and gave her a new perspective on life.

"I'm very serious about my job and what has to happen with the horse, but other than that, I don't worry about it. It's all good," said Ritvo.

And Rivito is hardly superstitious about posting up at number 13.

“I think it’s a lucky number, 13. I got my heart transplant on the (Nov.) 13th  (2008) and I was born on Feb. 13, so I thought I’d be getting the 13.”

One thing to note is that the number 13 has had one win in the history of the Derby.  More importantly, it has the most places, or second place finishes, than any other post position with five.

With eight starts, Mucho Macho Man has finished worse than second just once in his career and has ran a 1 1/8 miles race twice.

Aside from unimpressive pedigree and stepping on himself to lose the Louisiana Derby, Mucho Macho Man’s weaknesses are far and few between.

At 10/1 (+1000) odds, consider Mucho Macho Man a steal.
