Pennsylvania Casino Slots Up Big in March

In a recent report on Cision PR Newswire as released by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, March was a big month for real money gambling on slot machines for the Keystone State. According to this report, gross revenue on slot machine play in the state’s casino industry was up 5.4 percent verse March of last year.There are a total of 12 casinos across the state with the biggest concentration in the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh metros. The gross revenue figure for this past March was $221,350,222. This compares to a gross revenue of $209,984,147 in March of 2017. This was cited as being the biggest single-month jump in slot machine gross revenue since February of 2016.

The report on PR Newswire also included a chart with the March revenue figures for each of the 12 Pennsylvania casinos. The biggest percent gain for the month in slots revenue was 13.64 percent at Valley Forge Casino Resort. Another PA casino up big in slots revenue in March was Presque Isle Downs and Casino with an 11.53 percent gain to $10,587,202.Parx Casino, outside Philadelphia brought in the mos t gross revenue on slots in the state at $37,473,916 which was a gain of 9.01 percent from March of 2017. Of the 12 casinos on the list, two showed a slight decline in slots revenue during the same time frame. Mount Airy Casino Resort was down 1.4 percent to $11,953,039 and Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin showed a slight .08 percent decline to $2,736,877.

Some of the casinos in the state with corporate ties to Las Vegas include Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino and Racetrack and Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem. Harrah’s slots revenue for March was $19,042,586, which reflected a gain of 2.33 percent from the previous year. The March revenue at the Sands location reached $27,840,727 for a gain of 3.1 percent.
The state report also released the total tax revenue generated from March’s gain to the tune of $115,518,487. The report mentions that this figure reflects the amount of tax revenue prior to any adjustments by the PA Department of Revenue.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the state’s casino industry. It is also tasked with the control and regulation of any new gaming initiatives to the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. This was recently approved with PA Act 42 in 2017.The Pennsylvania casino industry is currently made up of 10 gambling operations that are either stand-alone casinos or connected to a horse racing venue. The other two PA casinos are considered smaller resort casinos. Across all 12 operations, there are an estimat ed 18,000 people employed by the Pennsylvania casino industry. The report also cites a figure of $1.4 billion in total tax revenue from slot machines and live-dealer table games. The real money gambling system in the state is set up to provide property tax relief to all Pennsylvania homeowners.
