Pennsylvania online gambling firms will need to follow the US Department of Justice new guidelines.

Regulators in the Keystone State told operators they must comply to the latest DOJ opinion that states all forms of online gambling, not just sports betting, now fall under the Wire Act.

As expected, all payment transactions will need to be conducted in state. Payment processors and banking institutions tend to operate in regions outside Pennsylvania currently.

Director Kevin O’Toole issued a letter to PA casino managers and their counsel advising of such this past Friday.

“While we fully recognize that this change may alter the plans of licensees in implementing expanded gaming offerings, it is a change not of the Board’s making but one commanded by the changing interpretation by federal law enforcement authorities. It is your obligation to comply with the federal law in all respects in establishing your gaming operations which must now be entirely ‘intrastate.'”

While the U.S. Justice Department has given operators 90 days to comply, attorneys in New Jersey have vowed to take legal action against the DOJ.
