IPL Bomb Blast Injures 15: Illegal Betting Ring Blamed

Officials in Bangalore are blaming two small explosions that injured 14 people at an Indian Premiere League (IPL) match on an illegal betting ring.

V.S. Acharya, home minister for the state of Karnataka, in which Bangalore is located said: "We have received credible information from intelligence sources that the betting racket is behind the blasts. We are carrying out investigations."

But Acharya also expressed uncertainty as to whether the evidence would hold up pointing to an illegal bookmaking racket.

"It could be a betting lobby that is behind moving the semi-final matches out of Bangalore or some other lobby.

Security forces also pointed out that terrorist involvement has not yet been ruled out.

The bomb attack occurred this past Saturday. Three of the injured were in serious condition.

Ammonium nitrate, engine oil, petroleum jelly and ball bearings were found in the three unexploded bombs - a combination also found in devices planted the Islamist fundamentalist Indian Mujahideen in the past, that paper reported.
