Clash of NCAAF Titans: #17 Broncos vs. #24 Cowboys on Saturday

By Adrian Chase

Two of the best performing teams of the College Football circuit will do battle when the Boise State Broncos travel to the T. Boone Pickens Stadium to meet the Oklahoma State Cowboys at 3:30 pm EST.

Both squads have had a wonderful season kickoff, forcing massive defeats upon their adversaries and carrying huge winning-point gaps on the side. Oklahoma State obtained two straight victories over Missouri State and South Alabama, while the Broncos did their own against Troy & Connecticut. These Big 12 and Mountain West ensembles will provide us with a show of high-scoring potential, averaging between 56 and 58 points per game each.

Two Mighty Front Lines

As things stand, either one team could emerge triumphant by late Saturday; both football powerhouses carry strong offensive and defensive lines. Oklahoma State’s QB Taylor Cornelius, who is stepping in for Mason Rudolph, has shown himself worthy of his new post. With the aid of running back Justice Hill, they’ve managed nearly 1400 combined yards and are expected to give the Broncos a run for their money. Boise State has been hitting pretty hard lately, smashing the competition on each opportunity and achieving an impressive 59 points per game average.

Oklahoma State is presently expected to succeed; the folks at YOUWAGER feature them as favorites with a -2½ spread, however, many pundits are veering for a surprising win for Boise State, who’ve secured a 4-0 ATS score in their last 4 matches against non-conference teams. Broncos QB Brett Rypien is a talented passing game key; he’s scored 7 touchdowns and completed about 75 percent of his passes. It remains to be seen if Rypien and company will be able to move past the Cowboys stout defense.

The End Game

Boise State has a great challenge ahead: if they can bring all their guns for Saturday and press the Cowboys hard enough, they might be able to snatch another win on the road. After all, the Broncos possess the sufficient talent and experience to face about any team in the league right now and won’t be put down by a Big 12 team. Some predictions have Boise State on top by at least 2 points by the end, which is a good reason why picking them on the plus points might ultimately be a good idea. The Broncos are ranked as the 5th best squad in scoring offense, while the Cowboys are trailing behind a bit at the 8th spot, with an approximate 57 ppg.

Don’t give up on Oklahoma State just yet; they will have to deal with the pressure of achieving a positive result in order to stay on the Big 12 race. If they can take a victory over the weekend, they will land the support of their remaining detractors.

My Prediction: I do enjoy a good challenge, and Boise State is the best team for daredevil role this time around. Those 2½ plus points will come in handy if the Broncos can keep their heads up by the wrap. Brett Rypien has been simply amazing so far and I don’t think he’ll disappoint us come Saturday. Take the Broncos on the points and expect to be greatly entertained by two super teams with lots and lots of points on the scoreboard.
